I am a textile artist working from my home studio in Waikanae, New Zealand.
I graduated in 1994 with a Diploma in Visual Arts and Design and worked as a jeweller for many years. A change to working with textiles happened after having children – it seems a natural progression into something that was meant to be – women in my family have always been making things with fabric and thread.
My art practice, in its simplest form, is an exploration in drawing with thread. I’m interested in the blurring of the boundaries between Art and Craft by using traditional techniques in new ways – transforming materials to create an idea.
I work with gathered materials, collected, found, donated and I’m passionate about re-using old fabrics and clothes. I make a considered effort not to purchase new materials when creating my art.
